Seven months for smuggling drugs into jail

NASSAU- A corrections officer caught trying to smuggle marijuana into prison has been jailed.

Ivan Forbes had five ounces of marijuana stashed inside his jacket pocket when he reported for duty on November 16.

Police found another pound of marijuana inside two cars that belonged to Forbes. The drugs have a street value of $1,820.

Forbes, 28, pleaded guilty to three counts of drug possession with intent to supply at his arraignment on Wednesday, November 18.

However, he didn’t say how much he was paid to smuggle the drugs or where he got them.

Forbes, an officer of six years, was sentenced to seven months in prison. He has to pay a $6,000 fine to avoid spending an additional year behind bars.
