Accused shooter gets trial date after co-accused killed

Nassau, BAHAMAS- A man whose co-defendants were killed while on bail has received a trial date for his attempted murder case.

Omar Atkinson will be tried for the attempted murder of Tarrico Bowleg on February 10, 2025.

Prosecutors alleged that Atkinson, Pedreito Mejias and Dion Excelant attempted to murder Bowleg when they shot him in Pinewood Gardens on April 23, 2022.

All three men were granted bail for the offense.

However, Atkinson was remanded to prison after he was charged with the October 29, 200 murder of Fred Lifaite at Sixth Street, The Grove.

Both of Atkinson’s co-accused were killed this year.

On April 25, Mejias was killed when gunmen opened fire on a car driven by Excelant in Flamingo Gardens.

Excelant escaped unharmed. But he was killed in an ambush shooting at Summer Haven on July 6.
