Man denies killing German expat in robbery attempt

Nassau, BAHAMAS- A man has denied murder and attempted murder charges in relation to a triple shooting on Andros that killed a German expatriate and wounded two others.

Derran Smith, 18, remains in jail without bail.

Smith, of Kemps Bay, Andros, is accused of the murder of Torsten Hendricks and the attempted murders of Hugo Hendricks and Wolfgang Hendricks during an attempted armed robbery on November 2, 2022.

The men were having drinks outside their vacation home in Johnson’s Bay when a gunman approached.

The gunman, whom prosecutors say is Smith, shot the man as they ran inside.

Smith pleaded not guilty to charges of murder, attempted murder, attempted armed robbery and possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life on Friday.

He returns to court on September 13 for a trial date.
