OPM worker jailed for gun and weapons stash

Nassau, BAHAMAS- A former employee at the Office of the Prime Minister has been jailed for four-and-a-half years after eight guns and 979 rounds of ammunition were found in his apartment.

Carlson Pinder, 35, claimed he found the stash of weapons and ammunition on his dead friend, Terrel Mackey’s property, in Love Hill, Andros.

Mackey, a key witness to the 2013 murders and kidnapping of senior immigration officer Shane Gardiner and his girlfriend Tishka Braynen, was found dead in his car on July 1.

Pinder claimed he kept the cache of weapons at his New Providence apartment for about a week before they were found during a police raid on September 28.

At the time of his arrest, Pinder worked in the IT department at the Office of the Prime Minister and drove a government-issued car.

Following the discovery, police also arrested and charged Pinder’s 33-year-old cousin Canario Lewis and a 13-year-old boy who were staying him.

They have been freed on $2,500 bail and return to court on October 25 for a status hearing.

At that time, they will learn whether prosecutors will drop the case or proceed with it.
