Nassau, BAHAMAS- A shooting victim who bought an illegal gun for his protection has been jailed for two years.
Police arrested Ronel Aime following a July 6 raid on his home at West End Avenue.
While searching the residence, the officers found a loaded 9mm pistol containing 13 rounds of ammunition on a shelf.
They also found two socks. One of them contained 39 rounds of 9m ammunition, and the other had 20 rounds of 7.62 ammunition. The officers also found one and a half pounds of marijuana.
The 39-year-old pleaded guilty to possession of an unlicensed firearm, possession of ammunition with intent to supply and drug possession with intent to supply.
Aime said that he had been living in fear since he was shot multiple times in 2015.
He said police had never caught the shooters and he didn’t know who they were.
As a result, Aime bought a gun to protect himself.
Aime said that he wasn’t on the streets with the gun “looking for trouble.”
Aime was sentenced to concurrent sentences of two years’ imprisonment for the gun and ammunition. He will spend another year in custody if he doesn’t pay a $1,500 fine for the ammunition charge.
He was fined $500 on the drug charge.
In 2016, Aime was sentenced to two and a half years for illegal gun possession.
