Ex-prison officer accused of shooting girlfriend gets bail

Nassau, BAHAMAS- A retired prisoner officer avoided becoming a remand inmate after he was granted emergency bail by a Supreme Court judge.

Jeffrey Sherman, 66, was granted $20,000 bail soon after Magistrate Raquel Whymms remanded him into custody on charges of attempted murder and possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life.

But Sherman qualified for an emergency bail application because he’s a senior citizen.

As a condition of his bail, he is barred from contacting the complainant and the witnesses in the case.

He also has to sign in at the Carmichael Road Police Station on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, wear an ankle bracelet and keep a curfew of 6pm to 6am.

Sherman is represented by Bjorn Ferguson.
