Contract killer appeals conviction

NASSAU – A man sentenced to 65 years in prison for a contract killing is appealing his conviction.

A jury found that Jahmaro Edgecombe took a $6,000 hit on 19-year-old Kenyari Lightbourne.

Prosecutors alleged that Daran Neely, the alleged leader of the Dirty South Order gang, ordered the hit on Lightbourne because of his ties to the Mad Ass gang.

After Edgecombe killed Lightbourne in an ambush through Woods Alley on June 21, 2016, prosecutors said that Sean “Fire” Brown paid him the blood money for Neely.

Edgecombe confessed to the crime during a video-recorded interview three weeks after the murder.

According to Edgecombe, Neely had offered him money to bump off Lightbourne and other associates of the Mad Ass gang, namely “Spider”, “Eyes” and “Kadi”.

Edgecombe said he walked up to Lightbourne and shot him three times with a chrome 40-caliber handgun.

Then, he ran onto Baillou Hill Road and caught a bus into the Pinewood area to collect his money.

Edgecombe said he paid some bills and gave the rest of the money to relatives.

He alleged that he sold the gun to a man known as “Mob”. At trial, Edgecombe claimed that police beat him to make the statement.

Neely and Brown were also tried for the alleged role in the murder, but they were acquitted.
