NASSAU – A man on bail for a double murder and attempted murder is back in custody for repeated breaches of the curfew attached to his $30,000 bail.
Donald Cox, 25, admitted to being away from his home at Pigeon Plum Street after 8pm on five occasions in violation of his curfew.
Cox was sentenced to 12 months’ imprisonment. He will serve an additional six months if he doesn’t pay a $5,000 fine.
Violating bail conditions became a criminal offense in 2016. Perpetrators face a maximum prison sentence of five years and fines up to $50,000.
Prosecutors say on May 29, 2020, Cox and another man killed two people and injured a third in a gang-related shooting in Bel Air Estates.
Peron Bain and 10-year-old Lorencia Walkes, who was hit by a stray bullet while playing in her yard, were killed. Leroy Sands was also shot in the incident but survived.
Cox was granted bail for the matter in February 2021.
He survived an attempt on his life on July 25, 2022.
Cox was outside of his home on Pigeon Plum Street with three other friends who are also on murder bail when two gunmen emerged from a Nissan March.
Police said one of the gunmen fatally shot his accomplice by mistake.
