NASSAU- A Jamaican woman on Tuesday was sentenced to 42 years in prison for the murder of her girlfriend.
Nadisha Beckford, 34, claimed that she entitled to take Lakeisha Mackey’s life because she was acting in self-defense.
A jury convicted her of the February 2021 murder in the parking lot of the Mayfair Hotel after deliberating for only 30 minutes.
Beckford, who is married to a Bahamian, did not try to help Mackey after stabbing her multiple times and slitting her throat.
After she was named as a suspect in the incident, Beckford sought to justify her actions in a video posted on social media.
She said, “You is not my mother. Don’t put your hand on me. I sorry yuh dead because I didn’t meant to do it. I was defending myself, okay. So if yuh dead, I’m sorry, and may your soul. I give yuh two stabs. So how the f*** yuh dead? I give yuh two stabs!”
