NASSAU- Police have charged a man with the murder of retired fireman Harvey Bethel, the country’s first murder victim of 2022.

Prosecutors allege that Hartman Rolle Jr is one of the gunmen who shot Bethel on January 4.

Bethel, 59, was outside a home on Coconut Grove Avenue around 9pm when two armed assailants opened fire, killing him on the spot.

Rolle, 27, of St Alban’s Drive, was not required to enter a plea to the murder charge when he appeared before Senior Magistrate Carolyn Vogt-Evans on Wednesday, January 16.

Rolle has been denied bail and returns to court on May 25.

Last month, Rolle faced charges in connection with a triple shooting through Quakoo Street in 2021.

Prosecutors have accused Rolle of the November 23 murders of Pablo Moss and Melvin Johnson as well as the attempted murder of Dion Bethell.
