Man denies indecent assault on girl, 5

NASSAU- A man is facing criminal charges after he allegedly indecently assaulted a five-year-old girl this month.

Rahame Gardiner, 19, denied the accusation at his arraignment before Deputy Chief Magistrate Andrew Forbes.

Gardiner was granted $5,000 bail on the condition that he reports to the Elizabeth Estates Police Station on Fridays before 6pm.

The magistrate warned Gardiner that his bail would be revoked if he had any contact with his alleged victim.

Gardiner will return to court on June 24 for the start of his trial.

Vigilante killer gets 25 years for revenge murders

NASSAU- A vigilante who killed two brothers as payback for the murder of his nephew was on Monday, May 22 sentenced to 25 years in prison.

Seron McQueen, 44, pleaded guilty to the January 1, 2019 murder of 19-year-old Terrance Rolle Jr and the May 4, 2019 murder of Rolle’s half-brother Antoine Barron Roberts.

As part of a plea deal, Justice Gregory Hilton sentenced McQueen to concurrent sentences of 25 years, less six months spent on remand.

McQueen shot Rolle in revenge for the October 23, 2018 murder of 22-year-old Kelson “Eyes” Kelly at Parker Street.

He became judge, jury and executioner when he killed Rolle in the same manner as Kelly had died—with a gunshot wound to the head.

Rolle was walking home from the New Year’s Day Junkanoo parade when a man approached, shot him the head and ran away.

Next, McQueen pumped five bullets into Roberts at close-range after midnight at Hospital Lane. Roberts was drinking with friends on a wall when he was cut down.

Roberts had reportedly threatened to avenge Rolle’s murder.

Police arrested McQueen for Roberts’ murder on May 7, 2019. He led detectives to a .42 Luger firearm and 15 rounds of ammunition that were not connected to the murders.

While in custody, McQueen admitted to killing Rolle His confession resulted in the release of Marvin “Meat Man” Martin, whom police had charged with the murder.

Rolle pleaded guilty to the firearm charge in November 20, 2019 and was sentenced to 18 months in prison.

Sonia Timothy represented McQueen and Cordell Frazier prosecuted.

Man, woman deny trafficking missing teens for sex

NASSAU-A man and woman have been arrested and charged after they allegedly forced two missing teens into prostitution.

Bahamians Jamalaya Roberts, 40, and his alleged accomplice, Shamika Rolle, 28, are accused of committing the crimes against the 16-year-olds between February 1, 2021 through March 4, 2021 in New Providence.

Roberts and Rolle are accused of conspiracy to engage in trafficking in persons and and transporting persons for the purposes of prostitution.

The accused pleaded not guilty to the charges at their arraignment before Chief Magistrate Joyann Ferguson-Pratt.

The magistrate remanded them to prison pending a bail hearing that will be held on March 25.

NASSAU-A 55-year-old was gunned down inside his Wilson Track home this morning by two men posing as police officers.

The men forced their way into the home by prying the door open with a crowbar around 5am and shot the man in the head. He died on the scene.

The victim, Carlos “Bookie” Brown, was a construction worker. It is believed he was a victim of mistaken identity.

Police are investigating another shooting in the area that sent a man to hospital Sunday night.

The victim was at his girlfriend’s home around 8pm when he heard gunshots.

He was shot in the head as he ran for cover. The victim is in stable condition, according to police.

Pardoned thief re-offends days after release

NASSAU- A thief granted clemency by the Governor General is back in prison for the same crime.

Brunaro Moxey was sentenced to five years in prison.

Moxey went back to his old ways, days after he was given a second chance.

Police arrested Moxey, 28, shortly after he stole a $50 jacket, $600 pair of Gucci shades and $83 in cash from a woman’s car on March 15. He trespassed on the woman’s Blair Estates property and took the items from an unlocked car.

In 2020, Moxey was sentenced to one year in prison for breaking into the then Minister of Health’s car and stealing his government issued phone.

Moxey has priors for housebreaking and theft.

Magistrate Rolle-Davis branded Moxey as a “common thief”.

Although the the pardon board thought Moxey was a proper candidate for early release, the magistrate said society needed to be protected from him.

He said, “Having been convicted on four occasions other than this conviction, the court is of the view according to the penal code, that the penalty should be doubled,” he said. “The court must protect society from this individual.”

Boat captains face charges in deadly boat crash

NASSAU-Two people have been charged in connection to last weekend’s fatal boat crash off Harbour Island.

A ferry boat captained by Marvin Minns Jr reportedly slammed into an unlit 22-foot boat that was operated by Renaldo Grant near Man Island on March 14.

The collision occurred around 9pm and the passengers on Grant’s boat were thrown into the water.

Prosecutors allege that both captains, while concerned together, caused the deaths of Candice McDonald, Leanna Cartwright and Jose Roberts Jr. Two others, Rozette Carey and Shaquelle Cash, were injured and remain in hospital.

Minns and Grant are charged with manslaughter by negligence and causing grievous harm.

Grant is also charged with operating a vessel without a license.

The men were not required to enter pleas to the charges.

The magistrate remanded both men to prison until March 24 for a bail hearing.

However, a Supreme Court judge freed each man on $4,000 bail hours later.

The men still have to appear before Magistrate Ferguson-Pratt on March 24 to learn the date that they will receive a voluntary bill of indictment that will sent the case to the Supreme Court for trial.

8 years for half-naked burglar who tried to rape woman

FREEPORT- A man who broke into a Freeport home and attempted to a rape a sleeping woman was yesterday jailed for eight years.

Herbert Seymour, 30, ran off after the woman woke up around 4am on June 22, 2016 as he moved her panties to the side. Seymour, who wasn’t wearing any pants or underwear, was standing over the woman while holding his penis in his hand.

The intruder fled when the woman screamed, alerting other people in the home.

The woman did not know the pant-less burglar.

However, police identified Seymour, who has a history of similar convictions, through fingerprints.

He was convicted of burglary and assault with intent to rape at his trial before Senior Justice Estelle Gray-Evans last year.

At the sentencing hearing, Seymour’s lawyer Sonia Timothy recommended concurrent sentences of five years, coupled with mental treatment for the man, who’s been diagnosed with bipolar disorder.

According to Timothy, Seymour began a life of crime after the mother his two children died.

Justice Gray-Evans sentenced Seymour to eight years, minus the year he’s already spent behind bars.

 

 

 

 

Man charged in Abaco ambush murder

Freeport -Prosecutors have charged a 23-year-old man with a brazen ambush murder that occurred in front of witnesses.

Raymond Trae Bain is charged with the March 14 shooting death of Laphanso “Fanso” Stuart in Sandy Point, Abaco.

Bain allegedly shot Stuart, 26, in the back of his head as he was about to board a boat back to Moore’s Island, Abaco.

Police arrested Bain the following day in an abandoned building at Casaurina Point. Police did not recover the murder weapon

Bain made his initial court appearance before Magistrate Laquay Laing in Freeport, Grand Bahama today.

He was not required to enter a plea to the murder charge.

Bain was denied bail and will return to court in May to receive a voluntary bill of indictment that will send the matter to the Supreme Court for trial.

$30,000 bail for pair accused of killing girl, 10, in gang shooting

NASSAU- An accused double murderer was released on bail last month, less than a year after his alleged 10-year-old victim was killed by bullets meant for someone else.

Lorencia Walkes became a victim of a suspected gang shooting when three armed men opened fire on a group of men next door.

Perron Bain, believed to be the intended target, of the May 29, 2020 shooting at Bellview Circle in Bel Air Estates died at the scene. Little Lorencia and Leroy Sands, another victim of the shooting, were rushed to hospital. The fifth-grade student at Sybil Strachan Primary died in hospital eight days later.

Police arrested Delanzo Cartwright Jr., 22, of Pinewood Gardens, and Donald Cox, 24, of Bamboo Boulevard in June and charged them with the murders and attempted murder. They were denied bail.

Cartwright, who has lost his father and two brothers to gang violence, was granted pretrial release on $30,000 bail with two sureties on February 5 on strict conditions. In addition to wearing an ankle bracelet, Cartwright has to report to the East Street South Police Station on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays before 6pm. Cartwright has to surrender to police before his trial begins.

Cartwright’s co-accused Cox, who has a prior conviction for illegal gun possession, will soon join him as he was also granted bail on the same conditions this week.

Teen charged with shooting into car with five women

NASSAU- A teenager accused of shooting five women in a case of mistaken identity has been denied bail.

Prosecutors say Dino Lafleur, 19, opened fire on a car occupied by Kinisha Jules, Shantique Green, Aaliyah Green, Antonesha Taylor and Alvinique Ferguson on March 5.

Lafleur was not required to enter pleas to charges of attempted murder and possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life when he appeared before Chief Magistrate Joyann Ferguson-Pratt.

The women were travelling east along Second Street in Coconut Grove when the shooting occurred. It is believed that their car was mistaken for the one that a group of men left in following a fight at a bar in the area.

Lafleur will return to court on June 7.
