Cops arrest sex offender Sidney for his safety

Nassau, BAHAMAS- Police arrested serial sex offender Sidney Cooper on Wednesday after he was falsely accused of attempting to abduct a 12-year-old girl as she walked on Fourth Street, Coconut Grove.

After learning of the incident, angry residents armed with rocks, bottles and cutlasses converged on Cooper’s home at Fifth Street.

As a result, police were called.

Police said that they are looking for a tall, bald and light-skinned suspect in connection with the abduction attempt.

Cooper was placed on the Sex Offender’s Registry after he was released from prison on August 18 for indecent assault.

Bail for teen accused of indecent assault on girl, 8

Nassau, BAHAMAS- A teenager accused of indecently assaulting his eight-year-old stepsister has been granted $9,500 bail.

As a condition of his bail, the 17-year-old will leave the family home and live with another relative.

He will wear an ankle monitor to track his movements and he’s forbidden from coming within 100 feet of his little sister.

The teen also has to sign in weekly at a police station until his case is concluded.

Prosecutors allege that the indecent assaults took place from January 1 to August 13 of 2023.

The teen did not accept the charge when he appeared before the Juvenile Court with his guardian and lawyer on August 17.

He was remanded to the Simpson Penn School. He was granted by Justice Cheryl Grant-Thompson this week. The prosecution didn’t object to his release.

Murder suspect held in fatal stabbing

Nassau, BAHAMAS- Police have arrested a 49-year-old on suspicion of murder after a fatal stabbing.

According to police, the 43-year-old victim was stabbed during a fight at Royal Palm Street around 8pm on Wednesday.

He was rushed to hospital but he died from his injuries.

A short time later, police arrested the murder suspect at Wilton and Mackey Streets.

Gang banger accused of 4 murders is killed

Nassau, BAHAMAS- A gang member who was on bail for four murders was shot dead this morning.

Phillano Williams, otherwise known as Sleepy, was killed in an ambush near his home in Sunset Park on Wednesday.

Williams, 34, was reportedly affiliated with the Grove Hot Niggas Gang.

Last month, he was accused of stealing a car that was impounded at the Criminal Investigation Department.

Williams’ half-brother, 17-year-old William McKenzie, was killed in 2016.

1 killed, 1 injured in separate shootings

Nassau, BAHAMAS- Police are investigating a murder and another shooting that took place on Tuesday.

Around 8:40pm, police found a man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds at Deliverance Way after they responded to a ShotSpotter alert.

The 34-year-old victim died from his injuries while in hospital.

Several hours earlier, police responded to a shooting at Nassau Village.

A 37-year-old man was ambushed by a gunman after he arrived at his home on Spruce Avenue around 4pm. The victim was shot multiple times and is in stable condition at the hospital.

Parents charged in son’s death don’t make bail

Nassau, BAHAMAS- A mother and father accused of causing the death of their two-year-old son through negligence remain in prison, despite being granted $9,500 bail each on Tuesday.

Demargio Thurston, 23, and Sabrina Henry, 20, are accused of causing the death of their son Jeremiah Thurston on August 12.

On the day in question, the toddler was found unresponsive after his head reportedly got stuck in a window while driving with his parents.

Thurston and Henry could face up to five years’ imprisonment, if convicted of manslaughter by negligence.

Thurston and Henry will return to court on November 23 to receive voluntary bill of indictment papers.

They will remain in custody until their sureties are approved.

Bail revoked for man accused of killing his mom

Nassau, BAHAMAS-A man accused of killing his mother is back behind bars after a judge revoked his $25,000 bail.

Sean Laing was remanded to prison on Tuesday for missing his arraignment on August 4.

Unless his bail is reinstated, Laing will remain in custody until his November 2024 trial for the March 7, 2022 death of 84-year-old Pearl Laing.

She was found dead in her home at Windsor Place that she shared with the accused. An autopsy revealed that she was strangled.

Laing claimed that he was given the wrong date for his arraignment. However, Justice Cheryl Grant-Thompson did not accept his excuse and revoked his bail.

She said this would ensure that Laing wouldn’t miss any more court dates.

Laing pleaded not guilty to the murder charge before he was taken into custody.

Bail jumper convicted of robbery in his absence

Nassau, BAHAMAS- A man who jumped bail during his armed robbery trial has been convicted in his absence.

Javon Johnson will be sentenced for his crime after he’s arrested.

Johnson and another man robbed Kelson Solomon of a Wendy’s spicy chicken combo, a Honda Civic and an Alcatel phone on December 19, 2019.

Solomon had bought the meal minutes before the armed robbery. He’d stopped to go to Dicky MO’s beach because he needed to pee. While there, two men robbed him at gunpoint.

Police arrested the suspects a short time later at Baha Mar Boulevard and JFK Drive. They recovered the cellphone and car, but the Wendy’s combo was missing.

Police also recovered a loaded 9mm pistol.

Johnson was convicted of armed robbery, possession of an unlicensed firearm and possession of ammunition.

He was represented by Troy Kellman. Bradford McKenzie and Carmen Brown prosecuted.

Parents charged after son dies

Nassau, BAHAMAS- A mother and father are being held criminally responsible after their two-year-old son died in their care.

Demargio Thurston, 23, and Sabrina Henry, 20, face a potential maximum sentence of five years of prison if convicted of manslaughter by negligence.

The parents were driving on Robinson and Old Trail Roads on August 12 when other motorists alerted them that their son Jeremiah Thurston’s head was stuck in the window.

The toddler, who was unresponsive, was pronounced dead at the hospital.

The accused were not required to plead to the charge of manslaughter by negligence when they made an initial appearance before Acting Chief Magistrate Roberto Reckley.

The magistrate will hold a bail hearing on August 22.

Biker charged in crash that killed pedestrian

Nassau, BAHAMAS- A motorcyclist is facing a vehicular manslaughter charge following a crash that killed a pedestrian.

Prosecutors say that Justin Pratt, 22, killed Carrel Fortune on April 4, 2022 as a he walked along Market Street.

Pratt is also accused of driving without third party insurance coverage.

He was not required to plead to the charges when he appeared before Assistant Chief Chief Magistrate Subusola Swain on Monday.

He was granted $10,000 bail and will return to court on October 2 to receive a voluntary bill of indictment.
