Ex-prison officer accused of shooting girlfriend gets bail

Nassau, BAHAMAS- A retired prisoner officer avoided becoming a remand inmate after he was granted emergency bail by a Supreme Court judge.

Jeffrey Sherman, 66, was granted $20,000 bail soon after Magistrate Raquel Whymms remanded him into custody on charges of attempted murder and possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life.

But Sherman qualified for an emergency bail application because he’s a senior citizen.

As a condition of his bail, he is barred from contacting the complainant and the witnesses in the case.

He also has to sign in at the Carmichael Road Police Station on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, wear an ankle bracelet and keep a curfew of 6pm to 6am.

Sherman is represented by Bjorn Ferguson.

Trial date set for double murder suspect

A man accused of the murders of his girlfriend and her teenage daughter will be tried on May 12, 2025.

Prosecutors say Blake Strachan, 23, of Ross Corner, is responsible for the murders of Allison Thompson and her 14-year-old daughter Trevornika Thompson.

They were last seen alive on April 11, 2023.
Police found their decomposing bodies locked inside their apartment on Ross Corner on April 14 after they went to carry out a welfare check.

Strachan has pleaded not guilty. He remains on remand at the prison and has requested a court-appointed lawyer.

Businessman robbed outside his home

Police are looking for two robbers after a Grand Bahama businessman was held up outside his home.

The incident happened at 5:30pm on Friday.

Police said when the man arrived at his home on Glover’s Lane he was confronted by two men. One of them was armed a with gun while the other had a baseball bat.

The robbers took his gold Dodge Dakota truck and an undisclosed amount of money.

Police recovered the stolen truck a short time later.

Man robbed at gunpoint outside his home

Nassau, BAHAMAS- A man was ambushed by two armed robbers outside his home.

The crime happened at 2:24am on Saturday.

The victim was confronted by two men, one who was armed with a handgun, soon after he pulled up his home on Yamacraw Hill Road.

The man was robbed of an undisclosed amount of money, his watch, hood chain and a set of keys.

The robbers fled the scene in the silver Japanese car that they had arrived in.

 

Man killed day before trial date set for 2017 murder case

Nassau, BAHAMAS – A man on bail for murder was killed the day before a date could be set for his trial.

Phillano Williams, a member of the Grove Hot Niggas gang, was scheduled to appear before Justice Gregory Hilton for a fixture hearing.

However, the 34-year-old gunned near his home in Sunset Park the day before.

At the time of his death, prosecutors had failed to try Williams for his alleged involvement in four murders. He was granted bail due to delays in bringing him to trial on the allegations.

Justice Hilton, however, set an August 2024 trial date for Williams’ co-accused, Terry Sweeting.

Prosecutors alleged that both men took part in the 2017 murder of shooting death of Leslie Rolle at Ferguson Subdivision.

Williams was accused of abetting him in the commission of the murder.

Sweeting is also on bail.

Man accused of shooting girlfriend surrenders

Nassau, BAHAMAS- A retired corrections officer who is accused of shooting his 60-year-old girlfriend surrendered to police officers on Friday.

Jeffrey Sherman, 66, allegedly shot Bridgette Ingraham in both arms during an argument at her home in Pinewood Gardens on Thursday.

She survived the shooting and remains in stable condition at the hospital.

Police issued a wanted bulletin for Sherman on Friday but recalled it after his surrender.

Sherman is expected to make his first court appearance next week.

Cops seek man in shooting of girlfriend, 60

Nassau, BAHAMAS- The search is on for a 66-year-old accused of shooting his 60-year-old girlfriend.

Police said the incident happened around 10:30pm on Thursday in Pinewood Gardens.

According to police, the couple had an argument and the man pulled a gun and shot his girlfriend in both arms.

The man fled following the shooting.

His alleged victim is in stable condition at the hospital, police said.

In another incident of domestic violence, police said a man is serious condition after his girlfriend stabbed him.

Police said the woman, 33, stabbed the 44-year-old in the neck during an argument at his Key West Street home.

The incident happened around 1:30am on Friday.

Police are urging people to resolve disputes without resorting to violence.

 

Shot murder suspect travels to Cuba for medical care

Nassau, BAHAMAS- A judge has granted a man facing murder, kidnapping and attempted armed robbery charges permission to travel abroad for medical treatment.

Zintworn Duncombe, otherwise known as Scummy, was shot multiple times in July while visiting a friend at John Road.

As a consequence of the shooting, the 35-year-old’s eyesight was affected.

Duncombe was given permission to travel to Cuba for treatment for one month.

Duncombe is on bail awaiting a second trial for the murders of Shane Gardiner and his mistress Tishka Braynen in Fresh Creek Andros in December 2013.

Prosecutors alleged that Duncombe was the mastermind of a plot to rob Gardiner of his gambling winnings.

On November 24, 2013, a group of men, including Duncombe, allegedly kidnapped the couple from Gardiner’s home and took them to Newbold Farms.

While there, Gardiner was questioned about the location of the money.

After he said that he didn’t have any, Duncombe allegedly shot Gardiner and Braynen in their heads.

Their decomposed remains were found on December 21, 2013.

Duncombe was convicted in 2016.

In 2020, his convictions were quashed and new trial was ordered based on “the failure of the trial judge to make a proper inquiry of the jury after the altercation between the forewoman and the alternate juror”.

Duncombe, who had been in custody since his arrest in 2013, was released on bail in 2021.

1 dead in triple shooting; boy,4, among injured

A man is dead and two others are in the hospital following a shooting at Rupert Dean Lane and Ferguson Street Thursday night.

At 7:30pm, two 25-year-old men and a four-year-old boy were in the front of a home when gunman exited a silver car and opened fire.

Police said the men were shot multiple times in the upper body and the boy was shot in the leg.

They were all transported to the hospital, where Dario Dawkins was pronounced dead, police said.

The other man is is serious condition while the minor was treated and discharged from hospital, police said.

Man accused of trying to rape passenger gets bail

Nassau, BAHAMAS- A man has been granted $12,000 bail after being accused of attempted rape.

Police arrested 50-year-old Nicholas Knowles after a 20-year-old woman alleged that he tried to rape her while giving her a ride.

The incident allegedly took place on August 1.

Knowles, of Yamacraw Hill Road, spent two weeks on remand at the prison before he appeared for a bail hearing in the Supreme Court.
