Nassau, BAHAMAS- A man accused of playing a role in a February murder has requested a speedy trial.

Jadre Evans, otherwise known as Mice, made the request at his arraignment in the Supreme Court.

Evans, 27, has pleaded not guilty to charges of abetment to murder in relation to the February 5 shooting of Desmond “Strap” Smith at Gambier Village.

According to Evans, police charged him although his lawyer Ian Cargill provided video evidence to show that he is innocent.

As a result, Evans requested a speedy trial so that he could clear his name.

He said that he didn’t want to spend two to three years awaiting trial on a case that “didn’t make any sense.”

Evans, who is on remand, is expected to receive a trial date when he appears before Justice Joyann Ferguson on September 13.
