Man on bail for murder fined for selling drugs

NASSAU- Police caught a man on bail for murder red-handed after watching him sell drugs.

Andy “Sip” Johnson, 39, pleaded guilty to three counts of drug possession with intent to supply at his arraignment before Chief Magistrate Joyann Ferguson-Pratt on Monday, February 7.

Acting on a tip, police officers went to the Farmer’s Market on Baillou Hill Road south and observed Johnson make several suspicious transactions.

As the officers approached Johnson, he tossed three foil wraps of marijuana to the ground, the court heard.

The officers confiscated 1.7 ounces of marijuana and three grams of cocaine while searching the immediate area.

Defense lawyer Alfred Gray asked the court to show mercy on Johnson given the small amount of drugs involved.

He said Johnson’s crime was a “poor man’s desperate attempt to make a living.”

The chief magistrate fined Johnson $950 or three months in prison. She also confiscated the $42.35 that the police seized as the profits of drug sales.

She told him that tough times were no excuse to sell drugs.

Johnson is on bail for the December 2, 2019 murder of his sister’s boyfriend Brian Evans at Dominica Way.

Police allege that he shot Evans during an argument.

Johnson was convicted of drug possession on October 9, 2019 and was fined $400 or three months in prison.
