Family feud over Bella’s body

NASSAU- A legal fight is likely over who has the right to bury murdered toddler D’onya Bella Walker.

The four-year-old’s maternal grandmother, Monalisa Walker, has threatened legal action if the four-year-old’s body isn’t released to her by noon on November 26.

The child’s body was reportedly released to her alleged father, Deno Smith this week. And little Bella’s body is reportedly at Serenity Funeral Home.

However, in a letter to Michael Hepburn, attorney Ciji Curry-Smith asserts that Smith has no legal right to have control of the body or make funeral arrangements.

Legally, the mother of an unmarried child is the legal guardian.

Prosecutors alleged that Darion Smith, the boyfriend of Bella’s mother, beat her to death on November 5.

Bella’s mother, Ostonya, is also charged with exposing a child to grievous harm.

  1. This woman gat to be out of her mind. Where was she when her daughters put that baby in harms way, to the point now she’s dead. She should’ve have that same energy to save that baby. Now she’s dead you want step in, try let that deal with his child funeral arrangements and let him do it peace for God’s sake.

  2. These are ridiculous, her rights she be forfeited after this horrendous crime ! Grandparents should not have rights over another parent. And the fact that this poor child was living with her father and his family practically her entire life says a lot.
