Cop injures woman while trying to shoot suspect

NASSAU- An investigation is underway after a policeman targeting an armed suspect mistakenly shot an unarmed woman Saturday evening.

It all began when officers on routine patrol around 8pm saw a man driving in a reckless man at the juncture of Blue Hill Road and Coconut Grove Avenue.

The officers ordered the man to stop, but he refused.

A chase followed and the driver eventually stopped at the intersection of Amos Ferguson Street and Balfour Avenue.

The pursuit continued on foot.

An officer opened fire at the suspect after he removed an object from his waist. The officer missed his mark and shot the woman, who was taking out the garbage outside her home.

The woman received non-life-threatening injuries to her legs and is in stable condition at hospital.

Police said they arrested the suspect and recovered a pistol.
