Boater commits suicide as cops help him to shore

A boater allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself with a shotgun while officers assisted him to shore on Sunday.

Police said the man described as an elderly Cacausian took his life while police officers were towing his boat.

Around 11am on January 15, officers from the Eleuthera Division responded to a vessel on distress report.

While assisting the boat to shore, the officers heard a single gunshot.

After they secured the vessel, the officers found the man dead in the cabin with a shotgun next to him.

Investigations are continuing.
