Armed robber gets 10 years for three hold-ups

Armed robber Wayne Smith is escorted to a police station after he pleaded guilty to three hold-ups.

Nassau, BAHAMAS- A Jamaican man who robbed three businesses has been jailed for 10 years.

Wayne Smith, 25, and others, robbed Fortune Supermarket of $5,500 on August 31, 2022.

On September 10, 2022, Smith and his accomplices robbed 700 Wines and Spirits on Bernard Road of $41,000.

Smith also robbed an employee of $20 and an iPhone 11, valued at $800.

What’s more, Smith and accomplices robbed Restaurant Supplies Number 2 on Mackey Street of $18,220.80 on September 12, 2022.

When arrested, police caught him with $6,460 believed to be proceeds of that robbery.

Smith pleaded guilty to three counts of armed robbery before Justice Gregory Hilton and was sentenced as part of a plea deal.

His 10-year sentence will be deducted by the 10 months and 26 days that he spent on remand.

After completing his sentence, Smith will be placed on probation for three years.

If he is convicted of any offense during that period, Smith will be sentenced to an additional five years behind bars.
