Nassau, BAHAMAS- A shooting suspect has been jailed for having a 9mm pistol and 36 rounds of ammunition.
Police officers found the contraband stashed in Aldeon Miller’s bedroom closet during a raid on his Gleniston Avenue home on August 27.
Just five days before, prosecutors say Miller tried to kill Latario Missick when he allegedly shot him multiple times outside of his home in Nassau Village.
Miller pleaded guilty to charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm and possession of ammunition with intent to supply at his arraignment before Acting Chief Magistrate Roberto Reckley.
He didn’t enter a plea to the enter murder charge because he will be tried in the Supreme Court.
Miller’s lawyer, Ian Cargill, told the court that the self-employed truck driver foolishly took him the gun and bullets that he found the gun while clearing bushes.
He asked the court to impose a one-year sentence and a fine.
The prosecutor, ASP Philip Davis, sought a sentence of 18 months.
The magistrate jailed Miller for 15 months on the gun charge. He also imposed a $3,000 fine with a default sentence of an additional three months in prison.
Miller received a concurrent sentence of six months’ imprisonment for the ammunition.
He is next due in court on November 14 to receive a voluntary bill of indictment for the attempted murder case.
