Police dismiss reports of mass shooting as fake news

NASSAU – Police have dismissed social media reports of a mass shooting at Fourth Street in Coconut Grove as untrue.

Police spokeswoman Chief Superintendent Chrislyn Skippings said there have been no shootings in the Grove for the year.

She said the police force releases official statements about crime incidents in the country.

Additionally, Skippings said police were investigating the origin of the fake report. She said anyone who intentionally spreads misinformation to create an atmosphere of fear would be prosecuted.
