NASSAU- Police have charged a man who they say tried to snatch a seven-year-old girl from her school last year.
Prosecutors say Alexander Coakley Jr, 20, of Wulff Road, went to Nassau Christian Academy on March 30, 2021 and told the child that her mother had sent him for her.
However, the child’s mother was entering the school yard as she saw a stranger trying to lure her daughter away.
The mother called out to her daughter, who ran to the car, and the man, prosecutors say is Coakley, fled on foot.
Coakley, who reportedly has a history of mental illness, was not required to enter a plea to the charge of child stealing when he appeared before Magistrate Kara Turnquest-Deveaux on May 12.
He was denied bail and returns to court on July 29.
