Unlicensed realtor accused of home sale scam

NASSAU- The owner of Rent to Own Bahamas is accused of a real estate scam.

Prosecutors say Andre Moncur, 31, of Gleniston Gardens, falsely represented himself as the realtor for three homeowners —and then collected deposits totaling $39,000.

Alleged victim Lavancia Palmer allegedly paid Moncur $12,000 in March.

Moncur allegedly collected another $12,000 from Derrick Sands on July 21.

And Anasticea Gordon allegedly paid him $15,000 between November 25 and December 6.

Moncur, who is not a licensed realtor, has promoted renting to own as an affordable, hassle-free path to home ownership.

Moncur denied three counts of fraud by false pretences at his arraignment before Magistrate Samuel McKinney.

He was freed on $8,500 bail and is due to return court for trial on January 26, 2021.
