Tourist jailed for killing girlfriend on Bahamas cruise

KANSAS-An American man who murdered his girlfriend on a Bahamas bound cruise has been jailed for 12 years.

Eric Duane Newman, 55, of Topeka, Kansas, pleaded guilty in December 2019 to second degree murder of 50-year-old Tamara Tucker, his longtime girlfriend.

Following an argument on January 18, Newman strangled Tucker, 50, and pushed her over the balcony of their cabin room on the 13th deck, causing her to fall to her death on the 11th deck.

Newman was briefly detained by Bahamian police regarding the incident when the ship docked in Freeport, Grand Bahama. He was tried in home state as the crime occurred 30 nautical miles from New Smyrna Beach, Florida.
