1 dead, 1 hurt in Andros shooting

NASSAU- Police have launched a manhunt for the gunman who shot at three German men in Kemps Bay, South Andros, killing one and seriously wounding another.

According to police, the victims were outside of their summer home after 8pm on November 2 when they were approached by a gunman, who opened fire as they tried to run inside.

One of the men died at the island’s clinic and the second victim was airlifted to New Providence for additional treatment.

Man accused of sex with underage boy

NASSAU- A 37-year-old man who was allegedly caught in a compromising position with an underage boy has been charged.

Police arrested Jonathan Brown, 37, on October 28 after they allegedly found him engaging in a sex act with a 15-year-old boy in a parked car.

The age of consent in same sex relationships in 18.

Brown appeared before Senior Magistrate Carolyn Vogt-Evans charged with unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor of the same sex.

He didn’t have to enter a plea and was refused bail.

Brown’s next court date is March 9, 2023.

Sister, brother killed 6 years apart

NASSAU – A 42-year-old banker who was gunned down outside her home Monday morning lost her brother to a similar fate six years ago.

Patrice Sawyer was shot dead around 5am when someone called her outside her Johnson Road home around 5am on October 31.

Her brother, 32-year-old Percy Sawyer Jr, was shot dead outside a home on Peek Street in Fox Hill in April 2016.

Man on bail for 2021 murder shot dead

NASSAU- A man on bail for a 2021 murder has been shot dead.

Fred Lifaite, 47, otherwise known as Gangster, was gunned down in ambush around 7:30pm on October 29.

According to police, Lifaite was standing on Sixth Street in Coconut Grove when the occupants of a silver car shot him multiple times.

Lifaite died on the scene. At the time of his murder, Lifaite was on bail for the February 25, 2021 murder of Kendino “Fat Man” McDonald was on bail for the 2016 murder of businessman Albert Rahming.

In November 2021, prosecutors dropped a murder charge against Lifaite in relation to the February 15, 2016 murder of Dave Miller Sr at Fifth Street in Coconut Grove:

The prosecution’s case collapsed after they couldn’t locate an alleged eyewitness.

Post Office boss denies $95k theft

NASSAU – A 62-year-old woman has denied stealing over $95,000 while in charge of the San Salvador Post Office.

Eva Sands will stand trial before Magistrate Kendra Kelly on the allegations of stealing by reason of employment on February 6.

Prosecutors say the thefts took place on various dates in 2020.

As a condition of her $12,00 bail, Sands has to report to the Cockburn Town Police Station weekly.

She’s represented by Ryszard Humes.

Woman gets 42 years for murder of lover

NASSAU- A Jamaican woman on Tuesday was sentenced to 42 years in prison for the murder of her girlfriend.

Nadisha Beckford, 34, claimed that she entitled to take Lakeisha Mackey’s life because she was acting in self-defense.

A jury convicted her of the February 2021 murder in the parking lot of the Mayfair Hotel after deliberating for only 30 minutes.

Beckford, who is married to a Bahamian, did not try to help Mackey after stabbing her multiple times and slitting her throat.

After she was named as a suspect in the incident, Beckford sought to justify her actions in a video posted on social media.

She said, “You is not my mother. Don’t put your hand on me. I sorry yuh dead because I didn’t meant to do it. I was defending myself, okay. So if yuh dead, I’m sorry, and may your soul. I give yuh two stabs. So how the f*** yuh dead? I give yuh two stabs!”

 

Jail for sex beast who raped his daughter

NASSAU- A father who raped the daughter he had previously disowned has been convicted of incest.

The 48-year-old businessman betrayed the trust of his then-teenage daughter who had longed for a relationship with him.

The man, who had denied fathering her, was made to pay child support after a DNA test confirmed paternity.

Tragically, just two years after coming in her life, the man took his then-15-year-old daughter’s virginity in 2015.

He violated her again on his birthday in 2016 after making her watch a porn video with him.

Both incidents took place at the New Providence gated community where he lived with his fiancée and their son.

The girl reported the incident to police after her father pleaded with her to keep silent because he didn’t want to lose his freedom during a phone call.

The girl handed over her phone with the recording to police when she filed a complaint in 2017.

The man claimed that his daughter lied on him because she was angry he wouldn’t buy her a car.

The sex beast father has been remanded to prison until December 12 for sentencing.

His lawyer Murrio Ducille has requested a social inquiry report to help the court in deciding a sentence.

Assistant Director of Public Prosecutions Basil Cumberbatch prosecuted.

Cop kills man who tried to rob his wife

NASSAU – A gunman who tried to carjack a woman outside her home in Elizabeth Eststes was fatally shot by an off-duty cop Saturday night.

According to the police, the bandit ordered the woman out of her car at gunpoint when she arrived home around 8:30 pm.

The woman screamed and her husband, who’s a policeman, came outside to investigate.

A struggle allegedly ensued between the man and the cop, who gained control of the weapon and shot him.

Police said the dead man was wearing an ankle bracelet as part of his bail conditions for armed robbery and murder.

Man charged with revenge murder for brother’s death

NASSAU- A man has been charged with a murder that police say is revenge for his brother’s death.

Brandon Evans is accused of killing Andy Johnson, who was on bail awaiting trial for the December 2, 2019 murder of Brian Evans.

Police said Johnson, 40, was at the Blue Hill Farmer’s Market around 9pm on October 7 when a gunman wearing a camouflage jacket shot him multiple times. Johnson died on the scene and the killer fled in a Nissan Cube.

Evans was not required to enter a plea to the murder charge when he appeared before Magistrate Shaka Serville.

Evans has been remanded to prison. His matter has been adjourned to November 30.

Man wounded in shooting

NASSAU-Police are looking for a gunman after a 22-year-old man was shot Wednesday night.

Officers responded to a shooting at Shah’s Drive in Redland Acres around 9pm on October 12.

Police said the victim was in a yard with other men when a gunman shot at them.

As a result, the 22-year-old was shot multiple times.

He was taken to the hospital by ambulance and he remains there in serious condition.
