Suspects arrested for attempted murder after shooting

Nassau- Police arrested two men for attempted murder after they allegedly shot two men in a drive-by on Sunday.

Officers got reports of the shooting at Spencer and Key West Street around 6pm.

Police said the occupants of a dark colored car shot two men when they opened fire on a group gathered in a yard. The injured men were taken to hospital by private car before police arrived. They are in serious condition.

A short time later, officers on patrol saw a car matching the description of the suspects’ car at Cordeaux Avenue “travelling at a high rate of speed.”

The officers pursued the car and the chase ended on Lincoln Boulevard.

Both men ran from the car—and one of them attempted to discard a firearm.

Police caught both men and recovered a black 9mm pistol that they believe was used in the shooting.

Man questioned over woman’s death

Abaco- A man has been arrested for questioning after the death of a 35-year-old woman.

The woman was found dead at her home in Crown Haven after an argument with the suspect on Saturday. She had injuries to the face.

The woman’s children called police after finding her dead.

Police are treating the death as suspicious.

Man on bail shot in chest in Bimini

Bimini – A man is in serious condition in hospital after he was shot in the chest in Bimini today.

The victim, identified as 23-year-old Kyas Duncombe, was shot during an altercation with another man in Porgy Bay around 1pm.

Duncombe was airlifted to New Providence for further medical care.

He’s no stranger to the courts. Duncombe, a former fugitive,  was freed on bail shortly after he was charged with the 2017 Grand Bahama murders of Joseph Bain and Stephon Lafrance this June.

In September, Duncombe was accused of shooting into a car at Bimini Bay endangering the lives of Kareem Chea, Carlos Saunders and Kimani Dottin.

Duncombe is also on bail for that case.

Couple killed, children injured in 3 car crash

NASSAU- A horrific crash on Christmas Day took the life of a married couple and left their two daughters injured.

Brent Johnson and his wife, Eulona, the owners of The Sweet Life gelato shop in the Marathon Mall, died soon after the three-car collision at West Bay Street and Blake Road around 6pm.

The Johnsons were headed east along West Bay Street in a Nissan March when the driver of a Honda Accord, who was headed in the opposite direction, hit their car while overtaking. Another car, a Chevrolet Malibu, also crashed into the March.

The Johnsons’ daughters and two others were taken to hospital. Their conditions are unknown.

1 dead in head-on crash in Abaco

Abaco- A man died at the scene of a head-on collision on the SC Bootle Highway.

Police responded to the crash near Leisure Lee shortly after midnight on December 26.

A police press release said a Nissan Frontier truck owned by the Royal Bahamas Defence Force and a black Honda Fit were involved in a head-on crash.

One of the occupants of the Fit was declared dead and four others were airlifted to New Providence with serious injuries.

The two occupants of the truck received non-life-threatening injuries.

The crash is under investigation.

Man found hanged at home

FREEPORT- Police suspect suicide after a 43-year-old man was found hanged in his home on Christmas Day.

Police found the man hanging from the ceiling of a home on Raleigh Drive around 1pm.

His relatives last saw him alive around 5am on Christmas Eve, police said.

Police: Gunman shoots accomplice during robbery

ABACO- A bungling gunman shot his accomplice during a hold-up at a gas station in Abaco on Christmas Eve.

Two gunmen dressed in dark clothing robbed the employees of a gas station in Dundas Town around 6am, police said.

Police said one of the gunmen ended up accidentally shooting his partner when he gun butted the gas station’s manager.

The robbers, who are both described as about 5-feet, 5 inches and slim, fled—and the injured robber left a trail of blood behind.

Meanwhile, the gas station’s manager was taken to the Marsh Harbour Clinic for treatment for head injuries. He is in stable condition.

Police are on the hunt of the culprits. Anyone with information that could help police solve this crime, should call the Marsh Harbour Police Station at telephone 367- 2560, 367-3437, 911 or 919.

Unlicensed realtor accused of home sale scam

NASSAU- The owner of Rent to Own Bahamas is accused of a real estate scam.

Prosecutors say Andre Moncur, 31, of Gleniston Gardens, falsely represented himself as the realtor for three homeowners —and then collected deposits totaling $39,000.

Alleged victim Lavancia Palmer allegedly paid Moncur $12,000 in March.

Moncur allegedly collected another $12,000 from Derrick Sands on July 21.

And Anasticea Gordon allegedly paid him $15,000 between November 25 and December 6.

Moncur, who is not a licensed realtor, has promoted renting to own as an affordable, hassle-free path to home ownership.

Moncur denied three counts of fraud by false pretences at his arraignment before Magistrate Samuel McKinney.

He was freed on $8,500 bail and is due to return court for trial on January 26, 2021.

Abaco man charged with attempted murder in police shooting

NASSAU-Police have charged an Abaco man with attempted murder after they say he shot two police officers who came to his home to investigate a complaint.

Prosecutors allege that Marty Sawyer, 54, of Little Orchard, Marsh Harbour, opened fire on Chief Superintendent Wendell Smith and Corporal 3688 Andre Linden with a shotgun  on November 24. Smith is the highest ranking officer on the island.  

The officers were airlifted to Nassau for further medical care, and have since been released.

Sawyer was shot in the neck during the incident and received serious injury to his jugular vein.

He was released from hospital last Friday.

Sawyer was not required to enter pleas to the attempted murder charges when he appeared before Magistrate Samuel McKinney today.

He was denied bail and returns to court on February 26, 2021.

Suspect to appear in court for Abaco police shooting

NASSAU- A suspect will appear before a magistrate in New Providence today in relation to the shooting of two police officers in Abaco.

Chief Superintendent Wendell Smith and Corporal Andre Linden were shot in an ambush while responding to a domestic complaint in Pelican Shores on November 24.

The officers returned fire, hitting the suspect Marty Sawyer in the neck.

The officers and Sawyer were airlifted to New Providence for further medical care.
