Man stabbed to death after car crash

NASSAU-A man was stabbed to death during a row over a car accident.

The victim got into a collision with another car at the intersection of Fifth Street and Palm Tree Avenue after 6pm Tuesday.

He was stabbed multiple times in the argument that followed. The unidentified man died at the scene.

Police are looking for the motorist responsible for the murder.

This is the 12th murder of 2021.

Top court orders retrial in Andros double murder

NASSAU- The Court of Appeal on Monday ordered a retrial for two men convicted of the murders of an immigration officer and his girlfriend in 2013.

Shane Gardiner and Tishka Braynen were kidnapped and shot in the head during an attempted armed robbery in Andros on November 24.

A month later, hog hunters found their remains buried in a shallow grave at Newbold Farms.

Zintworn Duncombe and Cordero Saunders were convicted in 2016.

The Court of Appeal in July 2020 quashed their convictions because the trial judge failed to properly investigate an altercation between the jury foreperson and an alternate juror.

The court directed the retrials occur within a reasonable time.

Attorneys for the men argued against a retrial, claiming that the evidence against them is weak.

However, the three-judge panel left that issue for a jury to decide.

Man shot dead outside bar

Police are looking for two gunmen who shot and killed a man outside a bar Monday morning.

Officers received reports of a shooting at Deveaux Street around 8am.

When they arrived, they met the victim suffering from gunshot wounds to the upper body. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

This is the country’s 11th murder for the year.

Man charged with murder in Mall Drive shooting

NASSAU-Police have arrested and charged a suspect for a murder that took place last week.

Homicide investigators say 25-year-old Shakeem Munroe is responsible for the January 26 shooting murder of Lamar Moss.

They allege that Munroe fired into the car that Moss was in around 7pm.

Munroe didn’t have to enter a plea to the murder charge when he appeared before Senior Magistrate Derence Rolle-Davis today.

He was denied bail and returns to court on April 8.

Man shot trying to steal chickens from coop

NASSAU- A backyard farmer is facing charges after he allegedly shot a man trying to raid his coop.

Cameron Jones caught Godfrey Saunders on his Cowpen Road property on January 29 and allegedly shot him in the neck with a shotgun.

Saunders, 56, also of Cowpen Road, had broken the lock on the chicken coop in a bid to steal 13 chickens, worth $1,300.

Jones has denied a charge of causing harm and is free on $1,500 bail.

He returns to court for trial on April 19.

Meanwhile, Saunders pleaded guilty to trespassing and attempted stealing at his arraignment.

He was fined $1,000 or six months in prison for attempted stealing and placed on six months of probation for trespassing.

Should Saunders get into trouble during his probation, he will spend three months in prison.

Weapon found in car of man killed in police shooting

NASSAU- Police said they shot dead a motorist who allegedly barreled towards a police checkpoint Sunday afternoon.

Officers set up a checkpoint at the area commonly referred to as The Tracks after they were called there to investigate a disturbance around 5pm, police said in a press release.

The driver of a small black car allegedly sped towards the officers manning the checkpoint, causing them to shoot.

The motorist continued west along Corridor Seven and crashed into a wall.

Officers called an ambulance, but the man died at hospital.

Police allegedly found a weapon when they searched his car.

Man found murdered through track road

NASSAU-Homicide detectives are investigating after a man’s bullet-riddled body was found through a track road in Yellow Elder.

Police went to the area known as The Gulf around 7am Thursday after being alerted by someone in the area.

Investigators believe that the unidentified man was murdered Wednesday night.

A car was found 30 feet away from the murder victim. However, police could not say if it belonged to him.

Driver in accident that killed two fined

NASSAU- A man involved in a traffic accident that killed a married couple on Christmas Day was on Thursday fined for driving without insurance.

Alexander Butler, 32, was fined $250, the maximum for the offense.

He paid the money to avoid spending eight weeks in prison.

Chief Magistrate Joyann Ferguson-Pratt granted Butler $12,000 bail, pending his killing in the course of dangerous driving case.

Prosecutors say Butler caused the deaths of Brent Johnson and his wife Eulona by driving dangerously.

Butler spent one week in prison on remand while waiting for a bail hearing.

Butler, a butcher, returns to court on September 21 for trial.

The collision happened around 6pm.

Police say Butler crashed into the Johnsons’ Nissan March while overtaking.

The owners of the Sweet Life gelato shop were pronounced dead at the scene. They left behind two daughters, who were also injured in the accident.

Man denies beating up MP outside woman’s house

NASSAU_The brother-in-law of South and Central Eleuthera MP Stephen “Hank” Johnson has denied beating and threatening to kill him.

Alexander Williamson, 43, of Unison Road, faced charges of assault and threats of death when he appeared before Senior Magistrate Carolyn Vogt-Evans today.

Williamson is accused of punching, choking and threatening to kill the MP as he left a female friend’s home in Coral Harbour.

The incident took place around 7:45 a.m. on January 16.

Williamson’s sister, Shelley, is separated from Johnson, who sustained injuries to the forehead. Johnson’s estranged wife came to court with her brother.

Williamson, a mechanic at Bahamasair, is free on $3,000 bail with one guarantor. Wayne Munroe QC is his lawyer.

He returns to court on April 7 for trial.

Mrs Johnson made a countercomplaint of assault against her husband.

However, police found her complaint unsubstantiated and did not charge him.

Man dies in hospital after shooting

NASSAU- A man died in hospital following a shooting Tuesday night.

According to police, they received a report of shooting at Mall Drive, off Soldier Road, around 7pm.

Police said two men were seated inside a car outside a home when the occupant of small car opened fire, shooting one of them.

The gunshot victim was taken to hospital and died from his injuries a short time later.

Police are also investigating two non-fatal shootings that left a man and a woman in stable condition in hospital.

Police said an unknown gunman shot a woman in the left arm as she entered her home on Tulip Avenue around 7am.

She drove herself to the Grove Police Station. She was taken to hospital and is in stable condition.

Around 9pm, a man was shot multiple times in a drive-by shooting as he was about to get out of his car.

The incident happened on Datura Avenue in South Beach.

The victim drove to the East Street South Police Station and was taken to hospital by ambulance.
