Man denies beating up MP outside woman’s house

NASSAU_The brother-in-law of South and Central Eleuthera MP Stephen “Hank” Johnson has denied beating and threatening to kill him.

Alexander Williamson, 43, of Unison Road, faced charges of assault and threats of death when he appeared before Senior Magistrate Carolyn Vogt-Evans today.

Williamson is accused of punching, choking and threatening to kill the MP as he left a female friend’s home in Coral Harbour.

The incident took place around 7:45 a.m. on January 16.

Williamson’s sister, Shelley, is separated from Johnson, who sustained injuries to the forehead. Johnson’s estranged wife came to court with her brother.

Williamson, a mechanic at Bahamasair, is free on $3,000 bail with one guarantor. Wayne Munroe QC is his lawyer.

He returns to court on April 7 for trial.

Mrs Johnson made a countercomplaint of assault against her husband.

However, police found her complaint unsubstantiated and did not charge him.
