NASSAU- A tourist was arrested after he called police to report a break-in.
Michael DiNapoli, 43, of Boston, Massachusetts, called police after discovering a break-in at the condo he was renting at Delaporte on January 9.
DiNapoli told the officers that the intruders had taken his passport and other items, a court heard. He showed the officers where he had last seen his travel document.
While inspecting the crime scene, the officers noticed a clear plastic container that contained loose marijuana.
They arrested DiNapoli and charged him with possession of four grams of marijuana, worth $15.
DiNapoli, who spent the weekend a police station’s cell, pleaded guilty to possession of dangerous drugs at his arraignment before Deputy Chief Magistrate Andrew Forbes.
He paid a $100 fine to avoid spending one month in prison.
Police found DiNapoli’s “stolen” passport and other missing items in his luggage.
