NASSAU – A man accused of causing his mother’s death has been granted bail.
Sean Laing, 51, has been ordered freed on $25,000 bail as he awaits a trial for the March 7, 2022 murder of 84-year-old Pearl Laing at her home in Windsor Place.
Police initially believed that Laing had died of natural causes. However, an autopsy revealed that she had died from strangulation.
Ms Laing’s son was allegedly the last person in the home with her before she died.
In granting bail, Justice Gregory Hilton noted that Laing was presumed innocent.
He said the prosecution had not produced any evidence to convince him that Laing would abscond, interfere with witnesses or otherwise obstruct the course of justice.
Additionally, Justice Hilton did not find that Laing was a threat to public safety or needed to remain in custody for his protection.
