NASSAU- A 41-year-old man has been charged with the murder of his own brother.
Andrew Valdes, 62, died after being shot in the head at the Stapledon School For The Mentally Disabled on Dolphin Drive where he worked as a physical education teacher and caretaker.
Prosecutors say the murder took place between December 31, 2020 and January 1, 2021. Valdes was found in a pool of blood at the school around noon on New Year’s Day.
Today, police charged Valdes’ younger brother, Rafael Valdes, with his murder.
Valdes, who was jailed in 2016 for illegal gun possession, was not required to enter a plea to the charge when he appeared before Chief Magistrate Joyann Ferguson-Pratt.
She denied him bail and remanded him to prison. Valdes is due to return to court on March 30 on the murder charge.
But that’s not all. Valdes is accused of threatening another man with a gun on separate occasions in December 2020.
He’s accused of pointing a gun at 27-year-old Jeffrey Morley on December 7 with intent to put him in fear.
Valdes faces charges of assault with a deadly weapon and threats of death after he allegedly pulled a gun on Morley and threatened to kill him.
Both incidents allegedly happened in Coconut Grove.
Valdes entered not guilty pleas in those matters and his trial date is set for September 16.
