NASSAU- A boat captain sentenced to five years in prison has lost a bid to cut his sentence.
Acting on a tip, officers from the Drug Enforcement Unit boarded the wooden sloop captained by Clodius Michel at the dock in Inagua on June 23, 2018.
During a search, they found 40 pounds of cocaine, worth $330,000, inside a secret compartment in the living quarters.
Michel, 33, of La Tortue, Haiti, admitted to smuggling the drugs from Haiti. He told police he was supposed to deliver the drugs to an unidentified man.
Michel filed an appeal against his sentence arguing that it was too harsh as he pleaded guilty at the first opportunity.
However, the Court of Appeal upheld the sentence after ruling it was not unduly severe.
