NASSAU- A man who bought crack cocaine to feed his 20-year drug addiction has been granted a conditional discharge.
Police arrested Aristople Smith, 34, around 2am on Parkgate Road.
Smith, of Tuckaway Road, gave the officers three packets of crack cocaine. They found another three when they searched his Nissan Cube.
Smith, a married father of one, told the court he started using drugs at 14.
He said, “This kind of addiction ain’t easy.”
Deputy Chief Magistrate Andrew Forbes said that drug addiction is considered more of a disease than a crime.
As a result, he gave Smith an opportunity to beat his habit.
Smith will avoid a conviction if he successfully completes drug counseling for one year.
If he doesn’t, he’ll go to prison for three months.
