Donna Vasyli acquitted of husband’s murder

NASSAU- Donna Vasyli has been acquitted of the murder of her husband, renowned podiatrist Dr Philip Vasyli.

He was found stabbed to death in the guest house of their home in Old Fort Bay on March 24, 2015.

This is the second time that Donna has been tried for the murder.

In November 2015, a judge sentenced Donna to 20 years’ imprisonment after a jury found her guilty of murder.

However, appeal judges overturned her conviction and ordered a retrial in 2017 and she was freed on $250,000 bail.

Then, in January 2020 Donna made a final appeal to the Privy Council to block the retrial.

But in March 2020,, the Privy Council directed the Court of Appeal to reconsider its earlier decision for a retrial.

The Court of Appeal ordered a retrial in October 2020.
