Airline ticket agent denies plot to smuggle cocaine

NASSAU- An airline employee is accused of helping his cousin bypass security by getting a suitcase with 32 pounds of cocaine onto a flight from Inagua to New Providence.

Bahamasair ticket agent Nerico Beneby, 23, and his 40-year-old cousin, Duedanae Leann Cox, both appeared before Magistrate Samuel McKinney on May 10 charged with drug possession with intent to supply and conspiracy to possess drugs with intent to supply.

Police arrested Cox at the domestic terminal of the Lynden Pindling International Airport after they found cocaine with $240,000 in her suitcase.

She is accused of money laundering after police allegedly found her with $1,452, believed to be the proceeds of crime.

The defendants denied all the charges against them and they were each granted $40,000 bail.

They are next due in court on July 26 for the start of their trial.
