Accused cocaine trafficker jailed for illegal landing

Nassau, BAHAMAS- A man accused of cocaine smuggling has been jailed for entering the country illegally.

Cuban-American Carlos Delgado was jailed for three months after he admitted the offense of illegal landing.

Officers from the Royal Bahamas Defence Force stopped and searched the boat that Delgado was captaining at Prince George Wharf on July 24.

Delgado was arrested on suspicion of drug trafficking after authorities found 61 kilos of cocaine, valued at $1.2 million, onboard.

Further investigations led authorities to Bahamian national Feraud Jamaal Bain.

Both men face charges of possession of dangerous drugs with intent to supply, conspiracy to possess drugs with intent to supply and conspiracy to export drugs.

Bain has been freed on $50,000 cash bail and has to wear an ankle monitor while Delgado was denied bail.

Both men will be tried on November 7 and 8.
