Nassau, BAHAMAS- A mother has been charged with failing to report the repeated sexual abuse of her 11-year-old daughter, who was impregnated by her significant other.
The 40-year-old mother faces charges of failing to report the abuse of a minor, performing an illegal abortion and aggravated causing harm while performing an abortion.
The at-home abortion allegedly took place between August 11 and 12.
The mother’s 45-year-old boyfriend is accused of five counts of unlawful sexual intercourse with a dependent. The sexual abuse allegedly started in April 2022 when the child was 10 and continued until May 2023.
Their names have been withheld to protect the victim.
They were denied bail when they appeared before Senior Magistrate Shaka Serville.
The accused were not required to plead to the charges and are next due in court on January 15, 2024.
