Nassau, BAHAMAS- A man accused of raping a 78-year-old woman faces the possibility of a retrial after a jury failed to reach a verdict.
However, the same panel convicted Charles Lightbourne of burgling the senior citizen’s home and beating her during the same incident.
Prosecutors accused Lightbourne, 50, of breaking into the woman’s home around 11pm on May 6, 2021, beating her and sexually assaulting her.
Lightbourne returns to court on September 7 for a sentencing on the burglary and causing harm charges.
It is up to the prosecution whether he will face a second trial for the rape.
