Mother charged with cruelty after son drowns

NASSAU – A mother whose 11-year-old son went unidentified for three days after he drowned has been charged with child cruelty.

Stephanie Hanna, 41, took days to report Gerodo Taylor Jr missing after he was found drowned in a pond near the golf course in Yellow Elder on August 2.

Hanna, who was brought to court in shackles, pleaded not guilty.

Prosecutors allege that she neglected her son on August 1 and “allowed him to go into a yard with a body of water that was not sufficiently protected to prevent him from drowning.”

Hanna was granted $7,000 bail and her trial is set for November 14.
