8 years for half-naked burglar who tried to rape woman

FREEPORT- A man who broke into a Freeport home and attempted to a rape a sleeping woman was yesterday jailed for eight years.

Herbert Seymour, 30, ran off after the woman woke up around 4am on June 22, 2016 as he moved her panties to the side. Seymour, who wasn’t wearing any pants or underwear, was standing over the woman while holding his penis in his hand.

The intruder fled when the woman screamed, alerting other people in the home.

The woman did not know the pant-less burglar.

However, police identified Seymour, who has a history of similar convictions, through fingerprints.

He was convicted of burglary and assault with intent to rape at his trial before Senior Justice Estelle Gray-Evans last year.

At the sentencing hearing, Seymour’s lawyer Sonia Timothy recommended concurrent sentences of five years, coupled with mental treatment for the man, who’s been diagnosed with bipolar disorder.

According to Timothy, Seymour began a life of crime after the mother his two children died.

Justice Gray-Evans sentenced Seymour to eight years, minus the year he’s already spent behind bars.
