Former athlete accused of stealing food

NASSAU- Former national athlete Jean Vanderpool was arrested and jailed for stealing food from his neighbour during a burglary.

Vanderpool, 51, of Arundel Street, has been stuck in prison without bail on a burglary and theft charge since August 14.

Prosecutors allege that Vanderpool’s neighbour, Glenn Woodside, was awoken by a noise coming from his kitchen around 3:40am on August 11.

When Woodside went to investigate, he saw Vanderpool leaving. Woodside discovered that two cans of corned beef, two boxes of macaroni and cheese, a can of tuna and a can of cream were missing.

Due to the burglary charge, Vanderpool faces trial in the Supreme Court.

But lawyers from the Office of the DPP haven’t prepared the voluntary bill of indictment that will send to the case to the Supreme Court.

Vanderpool next returns to court on December 2.
