Smuggler takes plea deal

FLORIDA – A Bahamian man has pleaded guilty to human smuggling in a Florida court.

Vonne Rolle, who is from Abaco, pleaded guilty to bringing aliens into the United States and assisting aliens to enter the United States as part of a plea agreement.

The U.S. Coast Guard arrested Rolle on August 3, 2020 after they rescued his stranded vessel with 13 undocumented migrants on board, off Port St. Lucie, Florida.

Rolle’s boat ran out of fuel after he encountered rough seas from Tropical Storm Isaias.

Rolle’s sentencing is set for March 9.
