FLORIDA- A Bahamian man is facing drug trafficking charges after US Customs and Border Patrol Officers caught him trying to collect four kilos of cocaine.

Darron Smith, 28, is scheduled to be arraigned on charges of conspiracy to import and possess cocaine on March 3.

CBP officers assigned to the Fort Lauderdale Hollywood International Airport found the cocaine in a duffle bag that arrived on a Jet Blue flight from Nassau, Bahamas on February 15.

They removed the packages and placed the bag on the carousel to determine its owner.

A short time later, Smith collected the bag from luggage claim.

The officers tackled him to the ground when he tried to flee.

During questioning, Smith said that he was in the United States on a visitor’s visa and living with his uncle in Miami Gardens.

Smith said his aunt had dropped him to the airport in a rental car.

The officers found a FLL parking ticket, $1840 US dollars, an iPhone, watch and chain during a pat down search.
