Video of police shooting won’t be made public

Nassau, Bahamas – Body camera footage of a police officer fatally shooting a Royal Bahamas Defence Force marine won’t be released to the public.

Police Commissioner Paul Rolle said the video of the January 10 shooting of Leading Seaman Rodney Adderley will be shown during an inquest into his death.

Adderley, 39, was killed close to his home.

According to police, the officers involved in the deadly shooting went to Dunmore Avenue in Chippingham to investigate the reports of a suspicious car.

They ordered Adderley out of the car and he complied.

However, a short time later he allegedly charged at an officer and attempted to disarm him.

The police officer became in fear of his life and fatally shot Adderley.

A joint statement by the Royal Bahamas Police Force and RBDF said that body camera footage was “consistent with the accounts of the officers.”

The statement said that both agencies are investigating the incident.

Authorities have asked potential witnesses to contact police at 502-9991/2 or the Coroner’s Office:

The statement was signed by National Security Minister Wayne Munroe, Police Commissioner Paul Rolle and Defence Force Commodore Dr. Raymond King.
