Woman sexually assaulted by man placed in cell

1

Nassau, Bahamas – A woman was sexually assaulted by a male suspect after careless cops at the East Street South Police Station put them in the same cell.

The shocking incident happened Thursday night.

Police brought the 25-year-woman to the station on a traffic warrant and put her in a cell.

Later that evening, police arrested Ryan Bodie, 32, for threats of death and causing damage. They put him in the same cell as the woman with the outstanding warrant.

Bodie masturbated and threatened to rape the terrified woman and give her AIDS.

Police at the station eventually responded to the woman’s screams for help and rescued her.

Bodie pleaded guilty to indecent assault at his arraignment before Magistrate Kendra Kelly today.

She suspended sentencing and remanded him to prison for mental tests.

Bodie is next due to appear in court on December 14.

Mental health tests delay sentencing for schoolgirl flasher

NASSAU- It’s been seven months since Joel Griffin’s arrest for exposing himself to a 10-year-old girl as she walked to school.

He pleaded guilty to indecent exposure at his arraignment before Chief Magistrate Joyann Ferguson-Pratt on March 25, the day after his arrest.

But she suspended sentencing for a psychiatric report after Griffin revealed that he’d been admitted to Sandilands Rehabilitation Centre (SRC).

Due to a halt on admissions at SRC, Griffin was remanded to prison.

He remains in limbo as the court awaits word on his mental state.

At a court appearance this month, Griffin told the magistrate that he had finished his medicine and he hoped to go home.

Motorists sprang into action when they saw Griffin walking behind the Palmdale Primary School student on Madeira Street with his penis showing.

Griffin fled—but police caught him a short time later.

During an interview later that day, Griffin said the size of the child’s butt caused him to expose himself.

Griffin said because his “hip was already showing he thought it would be sexy for his penis to show as well.”

NASSAU- Pastor Thomas Nottage is on trial for kissing a 13-year-old student at the school where he served as principal.

Nottage is accused of calling the girl into his office on January 29, 2020, as she waited to be picked up from Grace Christian School of Excellence and kissing her against her will.

Nottage is the pastor of Grace Evangelical Ministries.

The alleged victim’s friend was the first witness to take the stand when the indecent assault trial began before Chief Magistrate Joyann Ferguson-Pratt.

The 16-year-old is a former student of Nottage’s school.

She recalled how Nottage called her friend into the office while they waited on their rides.

The witness said when her friend returned, her demeanour had changed.

She said her friend was “shaking and appeared to be scared and her eyes were red like she wanted to cry.”

The concerned friend asked her friend why she was upset.

When her friend finally regained her composure, she confided that Nottage had kissed her.

The teen witness said she advised her friend to tell her mother what had happened. She cautioned her, “You shouldn’t stay silent about something like thing because you don’t know what will happen next time.”

The friend took her advice. She said her friend’s uncle stormed into the school’s office after spoke to him in the car.

NASSAU- Serial thief Anastacia Moree is back on the streets after she was placed on probation for thefts from two pensioners.

Moree, 42, who has a criminal record that dates back to 2004, reoffended soon after serving two years of a three year sentence for thefts targeting elderly women.

Moree preyed on two women, ages 70 and 73, in May by offering them rides from the Mall at Marathon.

Both women had recently withdrawn money from ATMs with the intention of paying their bills.

Moree stole $300 from the 70-year-old and $180 from the 73-year-old.

Moree distracted the 70-year-old and stole the money from her purse. She placed her hands in the 73-year-old woman’s pocket after asking her if she had change.

Moree pleaded guilty at her arraignment, but she was remanded for a psychiatric evaluation and probation report pending sentencing.

She told a probation officer that her mother, who is a police officer, had put “obeah on her.”

The prolific offender spent five months in custody before she was sentenced.

In addition to the probation order, the former Tribune writer must compensate her victims.

She will be sentenced to three months in prison if she doesn’t repay the stolen money or violates the terms of her probation.

Taylor committed the horrific act on July 24 while the children’s mother was at work.

But 38-year-old mother of seven didn’t call police when she saw how he had battered her children.

The boys live with their father. He had asked their mother to keep them because he had a job interview in Exuma.

The father canceled his travel plans after he learned what happened to his children.

Taylor, 28, had initially denied charges of child cruelty. However, he pleaded guilty on Friday, October 22 before the prosecution called witnesses at his trial.

Senior Magistrate Carolyn Vogt-Evans sentenced Taylor to one year in prison.

The girlfriend pleaded guilty on August 13 to failing to report the abuse. She was sentenced to four months in prison.

Government settles with police brutality victim

0

NASSAU- Taxpayers will shell out $83,000 in a police brutality case.

Meanwhile, Constable Courtney Hall, the officer responsible for the unprovoked attack, remains on the job after he was docked just seven days’ pay following a guilty plea before a disciplinary tribunal.

During the early morning hours of October 5, 2019, Hall approached Pedro Morley as he spoke to a woman outside Club Enve in downtown Nassau.

The off-duty officer asked Morley if he knew the woman and whether they were discussing him.

Hall then pulled a firearm from his waist and pointed it at Morley, causing him to fear for his life. Next Hall said he was a policeman.

Unsurprisingly, Morley left the club a short time later.

However, as he headed home a marked police car stopped Morley’s car near Big One shoe store on East Street and ordered him and his passenger to exit the vehicle.

They complied. Soon after, Hall arrived in his car and punched Morley twice in the mouth.

Two of Morley’s teeth loosened immediately—and six others were damaged.

Dentist Dr. Dante Bazard said that Morley needed an eight-unit bridge that cost $9,856 to repair his teeth.

Morley sued the officer, the Commissioner of Police, and the Attorney General.

The government did not defend the action.

In assessing damages, Assistant Supreme Court Registrar Renaldo Toote described Hall’s behavior as “high-handed and outrageous.”

Registrar Toote added, “From the evidence, it appears that the sole reason for the assault was to publicly showcase Hall’s machismo.”

Toote made a total award of $82,856, inclusive of the cost to repair his teeth and $18,000 in legal fees.

Bjorn Ferguson represented Morley and Luana Ingraham appeared for the government.

Miller changed his plea to guilty yesterday—and the court formally seized the money. Additionally, Miller had to pay a $500 fine to avoid spending three months in prison.

While on bail for the money case, prosecutors allege that Miller and Jameson Jacques ran afoul of drug laws.

Both men pleaded not guilty to charges drug possession with intent to supply and conspiracy to possess drugs with intent to supply when they appeared before Chief Magistrate Joyann Ferguson-Pratt.

The charges concern the discovery of 215 pounds of marijuana at an apartment in Stapledon Gardens on September 22.

Neither Miller nor Jacques were at the apartment when police executed a search warrant.
