Shop manager killed in robbery attempt

NASSAU- A shop manager died after he was shot in the head during a struggle with a robber Thursday night.

Police said that a lone gunman entered Grace of God Convenience Store on Miami Street around 7pm and demanded cash.

The armed robber shot the manager in the head during the struggle that followed. It’s unclear if the gunman got any money.

The gunshot victim died at hospital a short time later.

Man murdered 8 years after father

NASSAU- A man met the same tragic end as his father who was killed eight years ago.

The country’s most recent murder victim, Shemalle Ferguson Jr., didn’t only share his father’s name but they died in the same manner.

The younger Ferguson died in hospital Tuesday night soon after a gunman on a motorcycle shot him multiple times outside his home at First Street, Coconut Grove.

His father, known by the street name Balty, was gunned down while at the Corner Pocket Bar in the Kemp Road area in February 2012.

Man accused of hitting child

NASSAU – A man accused of striking a three-year-old girl has denied a child cruelty charge.

Prosecutors say Randy Mackey, 42, of Saffron Street, hit the toddler on May 1.

Mackey was arraigned before Magistrate Kara Turnquest-Deveaux today.

She granted him $5,000 bail ahead of his trial, which is set to begin on November 11.

Suspect in stabbing murder charged

NASSAU- A 23-year-old man is in prison on a murder charge after a stabbing Friday night.

Franco Ferguson is charged with the murder of Charles Armbrister on September 11.

Police responded to a stabbing at a home on Raymond Road after midnight and arrested Ferguson at the scene.

He reportedly went to visit the mother of his children when an argument with Armbrister turned deadly.

Ferguson was denied bail on murder charge when he appeared before Magistrate Kara Turnquest-Deveaux. He did not have to enter a plea.

Prosecutors plan to fast-track the case to the Supreme Court by a voluntary bill of indictment on December 7.

Stripper’s held in motel robbery

NASSAU- A man who arranged to meet a stripper at a motel for sex ended up beaten and robbed instead, prosecutors say.

Prosecutors allege that 18-year-old stripper Mya Smith lured her victim to the motel on September 10.

But it wasn’t the night that he’d imagined.

Prosecutors claim that Smith’s boyfriend, Demetrius Bastian, and his pal, Kelito Johnson, beat up the man in the motel room and stole $3,000 and a silver chain, worth $150. Police recovered the stolen items and arrested the trio a short time later.

Smith, Bastian and Johnson appeared before Magistrate Samuel McKinney this afternoon charged with robbery and receiving stolen goods.

They pleaded not guilty and were denied bail. Magistrate McKinney set a trial date of October 27.

NASSAU- A 45-year-old landscaper was gunned down in front of his home on Hawthorne Road tonight.

The victim has been identified as Danton Woods.

Bimini police seize $25,000, gun

BIMINI- Police arrested a man after they found US $25,000 during a raid on his home in Bailey Town, Bimini Saturday morning, authorities said.

Police suspect that the money was derived from criminal activity.

The officers found an undocumented Jamaican man in the same home. He has been turned over to immigration.

Also, officers arrested three men after they allegedly found a black pistol with a magazine and two rounds of ammunition while searching another home in Bailey Town.

Man accused of sex with teen boy

NASSAU-A man accused of sexually abusing a teenage boy has been denied bail.

Prosecutors say Kendal Ramsey, 36, had sex with the 16-year-old boy on August 7. The age of consent for same sex relationships is 18.

Ramsey was not required to enter a plea when he appeared before Deputy Chief Magistrate Andrew Forbes on Friday.

Ramsey returns to court on  November 30 to receive a voluntary bill of indictment.

He’ll remain in custody until trial unless his lawyer Barry Sawyer gets him bail in the Supreme Court.

Man charged with murder in gambling game shooting

NASSAU- Police say they’ve found the person responsible for the country’s latest murder.

Charles St Luc, 35, appeared before Chief Magistrate Joyann Ferguson-Pratt today charged with the September 6 murder of Patrick Rolle.

Police found the 28-year-old body wrapped in sheet off Bacardi Road, hours after they were alerted to a possible murder.

Prosecutors believe that St Luc shot Rolle during a gambling game in the area.

St Luc, who was represented by Tonique Lewis, did not enter a plea to the murder charge at his initial court appearance.

He’s been remanded to prison and returns to court on December 8.

Pilot fined for smuggling drugs on private plane

NASSAU- A drug smuggling pilot has landed on the radar of authorities.

Officers of the Drug Enforcement Unit were waiting on Donald Ferguson when his private plane landed at Odyssey Aviation from Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

They seized one pound of marijuana, worth $3,500, and close to $10,000.

Ferguson, who works at Exclusive Aviation, pleaded guilty to drug importation, conspiracy to import drugs, drug possession with intent to supply and conspiracy to possess drugs with intent to supply.

Deputy Chief Magistrate Andrew Forbes seized Ferguson’s cash and ordered him to pay an $8,000 to avoid spending eight months in prison.

Ferguson has until October 8 to pay the fine.
