Murder accused gets death threat in court

NASSAU- A courtroom erupted in chaos on Friday when the daughter of murder victim Necola Cox threatened to kill the woman accused of fatally shooting her mother.

The emotional woman disrupted proceedings before Magistrate Shaka Serville when she made the death threat to Elsa Ferguson, who stands accused of Cox’s death.

The incident exposed a potential security threat, as the woman was sitting behind Ferguson, when she made the menacing outburst.

The cramped court does not have a prisoner’s dock, and members of the public routinely sit immediately behind suspects.

Police detained Cox’s daughter with a view to charging her.

On the other hand, Ferguson told the court that she didn’t want to press charges against her former lover’s daughter.

Prosecutors say on April 17, Ferguson opened fire on Cox and her girlfriend, Vernitta Adderley, as they stood outside a home in Pinewood Gardens. Cox was shot and she died of her injuries in the hospital.

Ferguson is charged with Cox’s murder and the attempted murder of Adderley. She’s also accused of having a firearm with the intention of endangering Adderley’s life.

Ferguson is being held without bail. She is next due to appear in court on September 28.
