NASSAU- A single mother of six has been accused of child cruelty after police allegedly found her children wandering the street at night while she was at work.
Avery Roker, 35, of Sidney Street, faced six counts of cruelty to children when she appeared before Chief Magistrate Joyann Ferguson-Pratt on January 9.
Prosecutors alleged that on January 7 she neglected her six children, causing them unnecessary suffering.
Officers on patrol allegedly saw the children in the street after midnight.
Roker denied the charges and was granted $5,000 bail.
She returns to court on January 16 for a trial date.
The children, ages one, five, seven, 11, 12 and 14, are now in the state-run home.
