NASSAU- A backyard farmer is facing charges after he allegedly shot a man trying to raid his coop.
Cameron Jones caught Godfrey Saunders on his Cowpen Road property on January 29 and allegedly shot him in the neck with a shotgun.
Saunders, 56, also of Cowpen Road, had broken the lock on the chicken coop in a bid to steal 13 chickens, worth $1,300.
Jones has denied a charge of causing harm and is free on $1,500 bail.
He returns to court for trial on April 19.
Meanwhile, Saunders pleaded guilty to trespassing and attempted stealing at his arraignment.
He was fined $1,000 or six months in prison for attempted stealing and placed on six months of probation for trespassing.
Should Saunders get into trouble during his probation, he will spend three months in prison.
