NASSAU- A man reoffended months after his acquittal for the murder of Joyelle McIntosh, who was gunned down in front of her son in 2015.
Johnny Mackey, 31, of Bonaby Alley, had his convictions overturned by the Court of Appeal on December 22, 2021.
However, Mackey blew his second chance by mugging a man, stealing his chain and damaging his chain and glasses on March 6.
The incident happened outside the Esso Service Station on East Bay and Fowler Streets.
Nearby police officers arrested Mackey.
He was subsequently charged with robbery, causing damage and causing harm.
Mackey pleaded guilty at his arraignment before Magistrate Kara Turnquest-Deveaux on March 10.
She sentenced him to one year for robbery, six months for causing damage, and three months for causing harm. The sentences will be served concurrently.
McIntosh was killed during an attempted car jacking on Parkgate Road on November 11, 2015. Prosecutors said that Mackey acted as a decoy by lying in the street. A gunman opened fire on McIntosh’s car as she swerved to avoid Mackey.
Mackey was convicted of murder, attempted murder, conspiracy to commit armed robbery and attempted armed robbery.
The Court of Appeal quashed Mackey’s convictions because there was no evidence that he knew the shooter had a gun.
